Inem Akpan

I've known of Inem since my days at STJ. I remember seeing her and thinking, "wow, this girl's really tall. ...pretty too" & of course w. height and beauty, comes the association of modeling, which she does VERY WELL!

I mentioned that I've known of Inem because we didn't get much of a chance to truly get aquainted. However, through the wonders of Facebook, I've learned that we have a few things in common. She loves Jay-Z [& you guys already know how he melts my heart] ..she's heavily into modeling [I once was] and she's an AQUA-GIRL [Aquarius baybee!].

Those ARE only three things, I know, but I put together a little interview that should help to introduce you guys, as well as myself to Inem Akpan.

................................
aRRe: Where are you originally from?
Inem: Born and raised in Queens, NY but my cultural background is Nigerian.

aRRe: How long have you been modeling and what drew you to the field?
Inem: I've been modeling for almost 3 years now. Growing up in the '90s, I was inspired by the supermodels of that era. i.e.: Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, and Christie Brinkley. I felt like they were so beautiful and exemplified everything that I wanted to be when I got older. As soon as I felt like I was ready, I lept into the field and never looked back.

aRRe: How would you describe your style?
Inem: My style is sophisticated with a subtle sexiness to it. I've never been the one to follow what's trendy. I liked to wear what best represented my personality. A typical outfit for me would be a structured blazer/jacket or and oversized cardigan paired with a body con dress that doesn't reveal too much. It shows that I can be modest but the hidden suprise underneath it all is the sultriness.

aRRe: Fav Designers?
Inem: Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen... does American Apparel count? because their V-neck tees are BOMB! lol.

aRRe: Who inspires you to be great?
Inem: My mom. She is simply the best person. She is so resilient and so smart. Her strength motivates me to work harder and to never make excuses for myself.

aRRe: What's the best advice given to you about life, that you'd like to share w. others?
Inem: I once attended a program part of a lecture series in which a woman by the name of Immaculée Ilibagiza gave a speech about her life story. Some key points were that she had to go into hiding during the genocide in Rwanda. She learned how to read with nothing but a bible and a dictionary. All the while, everyone she ever knew was murdered and she was the sole survivor. She found it in her heart to forgive those responsible for the death of her family and her classmates. She simply said, "when choosing to be kind or choosing to be right... choose to be kind." It definitely put things into perspective for me. There are some people that will challenge you're strength and determination. They're sole purpose is to bring out the negativity in you and break you however they can. Instead of bringing yourself down to their level, bring yourself up, hold your head up high and be kind... always.

I can definitely tell you that Inem is more than a pretty face. She's one of intellect and such a sweet heart! ...For being beautiful both inside and out, I've decided to induct Inem into aRRe's Honor Roll Society for all beings of greatness.

"CLAP FOR HER!"

I love her response to the question--advice about life. "Instead of bringing yourself down to their level, bring yourself up, hold your head up high and be kind... always." I will forever keep this in mind.
