Now Reading: By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept

It's a grey and misty day where I am.
I got up this morning, had breakfast and sat outside.
Birds flew ..and chirped. beautiful birds. ..and I'm surrounded by trees.
I sat and I read. ...tranquil. in the earth scented breeze.

You Have To take risks, he said. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen.

Every day, God gives us the sun--and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy. Every day, we try to pretend that we haven't perceived that moment, that it doesn't exist---that today is the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow. But if people really pay attention to their everyday lives, they will discover that magic moment. It may arrive in the instant when we are doing something mundane, like putting our front door key in the lock; it may lie hidden in the quiet that follows the lunch hour or in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. But that moment exists---a moment when all the power of the stars becomes a part of us and enables us to perform miracles.

Joy is sometimes a blessing, but it is often a conquest. Our magic moment helps us to change and sends us off in search of our dreams. Yes, we are going to suffer, we will have difficult times, and we will experience many disappointments---but all of this is transitory; it leaves no permanent mark. And one day we will look back with pride and faith at the journey we have taken.

Pitiful is the person who is afraid of taking risks. Perhaps this person will never be disappointed or disillusioned; perhaps she won't suffer the way people do when they have a dream to follow. But when that person looks back---and at some point everyone looks back---she will hear her heart saying, "What have you done with the miracles that God planted in your days? What have you done with the talents God bestowed on you? You buried yourself in a cave because you were fearful of losing those talents. So this is your heritage: the certainty that you wasted your life."

Pitiful are the people who realize this. Because when they are finally able to believe in miracles, their life's magic moments will have already passed them by.

Writings on the wall: If you get that ...& you' with that

I had to step outside of what was familiar to me.
I was beginning to feel like a corpse in the one place that gave me LIFE.
Nothing made sense. ...& not much of anything mattered. as we'd already discussed.

Fighting off the goblins of indolence

I had to figure out why I'd become this way. No one could/would do it for me.
I left to rebuild and to find answers.
To slow down a mind that couldn't pace itself to save itself.

Juke Box: Mary J Blige - My Life

This album reminds me so much of when I was a little girl. ...Back when my mom and I lived in East NY.
She was around my age at the time & played Mary's albums religiously.
I knew the words to every song and even sang one of Mary's songs for my elementary school's talent show.
I thought I was the next big thing, vocally. You couldn't tell me I didn't have pipes lol

This song is very fitting for where I am right now.
I don't have many photos of my childhood ...but I have music. <3 For me, it's just as good.

Style-Spiration: The Queen of Hearts

I've always been in love with Cassie's style.
Not only with what she wears but with how well everything compliments her.
It can be a flannel shirt and sweats or a sequin floor-grazing gown ...it always looks effortless and so well put together.

Cassie's new single "King of Hearts" off of her second album Electro Love took a while to stick but I think I'm digging it. It's fun.
..Here's the video.

Styled: Boyfriend's Jean. Girlfriend's Blouse.

Was thinking "Big Moves" when I made this.

The outfit isn't necessarily meant to compliment the thought but, ..here it is.
I fell in love with the crossover denim and didn't want to do without the poppy colored top so ...why not wear them both!?

Due to its size, the waist of the jean drops a bit. ...giving it a baggy crotch.
The top's over-sized. Silk. & falls to perfection. ..But we're gonna tuck in the front just a little bit - to add volume.

Everything else's a piece of pie
Slip on your Kirkwood's, play with the pant leg a little bit, keep the effortless scrunch.
& you're off.
Ready for day-time play.

The animation represents an optional accessory.
I kind of like the idea of a silk, black, headband being tied around the head in a turban like way.
Starting high on the forehead.

It's up to you.

Writings on the wall: New York Nights

Last night was cool..
It was actually my first night out since the start of last week's hibernation.
I attended the Converse x UNDFTD 'Born Not Made' event @ The Hole, in Nolita,
It was a discussion & exhibition on the roots and evolution of street style, celebrating the launch of the Converse x UNDFTD collection at Foot Locker.
kewl shxt!

I loved that Miss Lily's catered the event.
Their food is amazing

...I then ran to the Meatpacking District with my boy Clarence, where we met up with a bunch of other people @ PH-D for Citizen NY's April Issue mag launch.
-& you can see more photos after the jump-

a good time was had!

Gimme the blonde hair! Long weave! Short cuts!

I dyed my hair yesterday

The plan was to go platinum blonde.
& I ..failed horribly.
The color that I did end up with is pretty perfect tho.
It's less dramatic.  {...show you pics later}

Let's see how long I can keep it.

Juke Box: Estelle - Thank You {remix}

Editorials: {Spring} Volt Magazine

This editorial's a good time!.
I love that she's primly dressed with rock-star, pink dipped hair.
That's my kind of fashion girl.
..One who can style her axx off without taking this whole thing too seriously.
I mean, by all means, turn heads! Break Necks! ...but HAVE FUN.

Stylist: Steven Westgarth

Styled: Fringe With Benefits

I had a cool pair of wedges by Corso Como that resemble the Giuseppe's you see above {just a little bit}.
Pure-Fabulous-ness!
Couldn't wear them without feeling like I'd lose a toe so they had to go.
Took them to Beacon's. Made some girl's day. I'm sure. ...They were soo cute.

Writings on the wall: Just wavin' atcha!

Hi my lovelies {male readers as well} :)
I hope you're having a beautiful day this Sunday, for us both.

As you know, I'm fighting a cold. :-\
But I think I'm winning. I feel so much better than I did yesterday.
I've been drowning myself in orange juice, tea and this little honey+lemon juice concoction.
And soup. ..which I am soooo over.
I want a Shake Shack burger BAD. A real greasy one.
Fries. && ice-cream!
Today would be a goood day!

It's cool though. I've been watching movies.
Just flipping through the channels.
I stumbled upon Waiting to Exhale {which seems quite fitting since I can barely breathe} about an hour ago and  was blown away by Lela Rochon's creme/off-white knotted dress. I'd love to have something like that for a summer time beach date. Peek-a-Boo pieces? ...oh, they're the best!
Super sexy.

..I hear it's going to be 80 degrees on Saturday? o_O
{yea, I'm not really understanding.}
Doesn't matter though. I'm scarred.
This cold has been a bxtch point 5 ..I don't even have it in me to get excited.
so I'll probably be the only chick in a snorkel. {mmhmm}
Y'all enjoy that.

I'm gonna go download the soundtrack to this movie.

Styled: Denim Chic

So I have this thing that I do, when I'm putting a look together.
I close my eyes and imagine it on a live model, as I'm styling it. If I know the fabric of the pieces I'm using I can accurately picture how it'll fall on the body. ..or how it'd look paired with other textures.
I never consciously think of a location, however, the guy/girl that I imagine is always somewhere different.

As I assembled this look I imagined her being on a platform.
..similar to Amtrak's.
Her hair's pulled back in a low messy bun or out with loose curls.
The idea was for her to give you low-key FEVER with no fuss.
Hence the denim on denim + baseball cap.

Accomplished?
